Last week, Volkswagen debuted the first of its 2012 models with the unveiling of the all new Eos convertible. The event took place at the California Design Studios, celebrating it’s 20th anniversary, and GoTryke.com was on hand at the star studded event for the first look.
The 2012 Eos embodies everything that is traditionally Volkswagen. As Jonathan Browning, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America put it, “…[Volkswagen is] quality and value, style and performance, and commitment to responsibility.”
The 2012 model bears some similarities to the 2011, however, it has undergone subtle design changes to the taillights, headlights, and front and rear bumpers, giving it a fresh, fiercer look. It is powered by a 200 horse power, 4 cylinder engine and DSG transmission which provides crisp shifting quality, while still keeping fuel emissions low. It is also the only hard top convertible to have a built-in sunroof, making it, as Mr Browning said, “…the smart premium choice for driver’s who want both the style of a convertible, and the practicality of a full-season vehicle.”
Mr Browning addressed the crowd stating “We’ll achieve success in the US by selling great Volkswagens, but those that are tailored to American needs.” The 2012 Eos embodies that philosophy, and delivers what the American consumer wants, high quality German engineering in a fun, sporty package that is both aspirational and attainable.
Proof positive that Volkswagen knows it’s Eos demographic, Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr was on-hand to help with the unveiling and declared the car to be perfect for the youthful lifestyle.
Mr Browning summed up with, “My task is to move the business on to the next level. We’ve got some ambitious goals, but I’m very much committed to them.”
After seeing this well-designed combination of practicality and frivolous fun, i’m convinced he will be able to do just that.
The 2012 Eos will be available in showrooms beginning February 2011. It will be the first 2012 model available in the US. I have no doubt once it hits the showroom floor, people will have the same reaction I did. They won’t be able to wait for the rest of the 2012 line-up.
